Behind the Scenes of Our Content Shoot with Amanda Craig and Leigh, Edwards & Company
You all know we love our home here at The Doll HQ, but there’s something so special about traveling to our clients’ spaces for their shoots! Recently, Caroline and some of the Dolls headed to Nashville to see Amanda Craig and her team at Leigh, Edwards & Company.
No one loves on their team quite like Amanda Craig. She leads and inspires a team of more than fifteen stylists who specialize in everything from natural curls and cuts to lived in color and hand-tied hair extensions. After remodeling both of her Nashville salon locations, Amanda wanted to love on her team with a day of video, headshots, and content creation for Instagram Reels!
On Sunday evening, our team flew into Nashville and stayed at one of our favorite Music Row spots, The Virgin Hotel. We love that the Virgin Hotel has a big, cozy lobby and a fun rooftop restaurant and pool. One day, Dolls, we WILL get in that pool! It’s a little joke we have with the front desk when they ask if we’ll be using the pool . . . we never are! haha
Monday morning, we were up bright and early for a day of shooting at Leigh, Edwards & Company’s Bellevue location. Just twenty minutes from Music Row, this salon is the perfect place to relax and let the professionals take care of your hair!
Before all of the stylists arrived, we got to catch up with Amanda and scout out some spots around the salon for headshots, video clips, and team shots. We have to say, Amanda did an incredible job making her space totally Instagram-able while still feeling like home. We chose to use the gorgeous wallpaper and welcoming seating area for headshots and testimonial videos.
As part of a larger video that our honorary Video Dolls are creating for Amanda, we chose a few stylists to share their stories and speak on what it’s like to work at Leigh, Edwards & Company. We also wanted to incorporate Amanda’s new motto for the salon, “Build a team so strong, no one knows who the boss is.” We have to say, we heard some life-giving answers and stories from the stylists at LEC!
You might be wondering, “How do you coordinate wardrobe for so many people?” That one was fairly easy! We chose several wardrobe options for Amanda, then we specified coordinating outfit guidelines that her stylists could follow while still personalizing to fit their vibe. Here’s what our Creative Content Doll sent to Amanda:
“For the team shots, we would love to have everyone in a white button down shirt, preferably men with black pants, and women with black leather pants, shorts, or skirts! We are thinking that this will help us reinforce the idea of "no one knows who the boss is" visually when everyone is wearing something similar, just with their own spin on it.”
And here is how some our group shots looked! They definitely delivered on style!
Now, let’s talk about the thing we’re sure you ALL want to know more about: Reel creation! So many Dolls Doing Business ask us, and the answer is YES, we can help you with Reel creation, too!
Before traveling to Nashville, our Creative Content Doll brainstormed a ton of fun Reel ideas that would show off the personalities of both Amanda and all of the stylists, educate their clients, and attract ideal clients to the salon. All of these ideas were linked and sent to Amanda to review prior to the shoot. Of course, we also saved all of those audios and made note of how we would film each video.
Toward the end of our shooting day, we spent about an hour making SEVEN Reels with different stylists! It was so fun to get everyone involved and make sure everyone got a chance to be in a Reel! The stylists were AMAZING to work with, and we cannot believe we created so much content in such a short amount of time! It was also cool to see that the stylists were picking up tips so they could level up their own Reel creation games after we left!
After all of that fun, we said good-bye to the stylists and got to work on a longer interview-style video with Amanda. Dolls, we cannot even tell you how much we loved getting to hear Amanda tell her story and share her passion for the beauty industry. She has had some unbelievably cool experiences, but she is still the most humble, caring, supportive friend we know! We all left feeling inspired and so ready to keep making dreams come true for our clients, and we cannot wait to share everything we created with the world!
The next day, Caroline, Amanda, and Em met again to go over more strategy and create even more Reels. Here’s our advice to all of you Dolls who are struggling to create content with these new platforms: KEEP TRYING! The more you do it, the easier it gets!
Finally, after some exciting morning meetings, the Dolls headed home to Richmond to start working on our NEXT shoot! This one is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever done, and we cannot wait to show you!
