1. Communicate

Across the board, the number one tip for running a business is having a strong sense of communication with your employees. It doesn’t matter whether you are a chef, head of a magazine, or running a boutique fashion, beauty and lifestyle branding + PR agency like we are at POSH PR®, communicating with the people below you is the key to your success. Using communication to be transparent with assignments and expectations is key when running a business! For the most part, employees want to succeed, and using communication as a means of direction in order to put them on the path to success is necessary.

Just like the CEO, employees also want to feel a sense of accomplishment. So, before you assign your next project, be sure to set clear expectations so that your employee knows exactly what they need to do in order to get the job done and be successful!

2. Respect Your Employees

Although you may be the head of your company, it’s important to respect each and every person on your team. Every single employee involved in the day-to-day of your business plays and important role and the overall operation could not go on without them! Acknowledging your employees with respect and treating them like human beings is a crucial part of running a successful business!

According to Business Insider, employees should be treated as real human beings and they state, “Unfortunately, some bosses seem to feel that hurling insults and abuse at people is an effective motivational technique. In most cases, this simply isn't true. If you value your employees as human beings, then you're already a huge step above many managers.” So, just like your parents always used to say, “treat people the way you would want to be treated” — it’s plain and simple!

3. Create A Positive Work Environment

Yet another crucial step to consider when running a business! It is hard to run a business when the overall attitude of your office is negative! Right?! No one wants to work near negative coworkers, and unfortunately, behavior like this is contagious.

So, as the boss and CEO, if you make an effort to go above and beyond to create a healthy, happy, and optimistic work environment, you are setting your team up for success! No, this attitude switch may not happen overnight, but even being more conscious of the smallest things such as smiling more, can make the difference in one of your employees days!

4. Stay Involved

As a Boss and CEO of a company, it may be easy to get distracted by all the busy work that you may have going on in the higher ups of your company. But, it is important to remind yourself to stay involved in all areas of the operation. After all, no business is successful without a strong base! So, why not sit in on a meeting, go out to lunch with your employees, take out the trash, etc. Taking the time to see how smoothly things are going in all areas of business can be extremely beneficial.

5. Find The Role That Suits Your Employees Best

This tip in particular is something our CEO and Head Doll Caroline lives by! As the boss, you want your employees to succeed but, sometimes certain employees do not fit the roles that they have been hired for. But, Caroline always makes an effort to mold a position around her PR Dolls so that they are working to their highest potential doing something that they truly love! For instance, our Publicist Doll was not originally hired for graphic design but after showcasing her talent in that area, the focus of her work has shifted in order to utilize her strong suit and talents! By making this a priority at our fashion, beauty, and lifestyle agency we have created such a great working environment that really highlights each PR Dolls strengths! After all, there is nothing better than having a job you are an expert in!

6. Recognize Good Work

Last but not least, make an effort to acknowledge when your employees do a task right. Think of it this way... continuing to encourage and motivate your team with frequent compliments when they do something outstanding is the gasoline, and your employees are the cars. If you want to continue on the road trip that is your business, then you must continue to fill your car with gasoline!

After all, we are all human and who doesn’t love hearing that they did a great job?! There definitely is a place for constructive criticism, but it needs to be balanced with praise when a job is well done.

We hope these tips and tricks were helpful for all you bosses out there! Remember to pat yourself on the back because running your own company is an extremely high honor! We’re cheering you on always Dolls!
