Boss Doll® Spotlight — Jordan Payne
The PR Dolls are so honored to introduce you to Jordan Payne! This Boss Doll™ first made a name for herself as a luxury wedding planner in Dallas, Texas, but she didn’t stop there! She now runs two successful businesses: Acrylic Sticks and My First Period Kit! We were so honored to talk with Jordan a little bit more about the why behind her brands. Check out our interview with this powerhouse below!
1. We absolutely love a Boss Doll® who can do it all. You run not just one, but TWO successful companies! Can you tell us what it is like to balance two brands at once?
Balancing two brands at once is not always easy! It helps to have a great team behind you! I am the creative behind our designs and products, but we have an amazing team so we are able to delegate the projects and workload. Doing this allows me to free up my brain to create and design.
2. You design and produce acrylic mixing sticks that we just adore! What sparked this super fun brand?
Our company started with acrylic stir sticks, but it has grown and we are now producing different acrylic products. This allows all of the retailers around the country to offer unique and high quality (American Made) products to their customers. All of our products are washable and reusable too which makes for a great gift while avoiding tons of waste.
What sparked this company is my planning and designing wedding career. I planned and designed ultra-luxury weddings for 16 years and just retired in June of 2019. In the fall of 2018 we had designed some stir sticks for our clients cocktail hour and we were so giddy at how darling they turned out. The guests were gushing over them as well and ended up taking them home as a souvenir.
We sort of had that light bulb moment of ’the market would flip over these’! There is nothing else on the market like them because they are something we created. We decided to do some market testing at some pop ups and markets and bam, we could not keep them on the shelves! We knew we had something special. We officially launched in January 2019 and this last year and a half has been incredible.
So much so that we just began manufacturing in house. It has been a whirlwind to say the least! We are so grateful!
3. What do you love most about designing and what has been your biggest challenge?
My most favorite thing it just letting my mind run wild and come up with ideas, concepts, and designs! Inspiration is everywhere! I can see one thing on the street and design an entire collection of products around it.
The biggest challenge so far was our first Christmas season and keeping up with store orders. That was insane! This year looks to be very different as we are now producing our own products in house.
4. To paraphrase what Cindy Crawford once said in an interview, style bleeds into everything you do because it's essentially who you are. Would you say that's true for you and your businesses?
Yes, absolutely! We all as humans have our own ‘flavor’, but I feel what is truly important in regards to design is you have to also be VERY versatile and create things that appeal to all types of styles. That is the fun part! Looking at different designs and thinking ‘wow the same company designed those, they are so not anything alike’!
5. What would you say is your signature style in your brands?
Color! We love bold, beautiful, and bright colors. They bring joy and joy is what we always need!
6. You recently started the brand My First Period Kit to help young girls who are starting their period. What has that process been like?
The process has been a lot of learning! This product is completely different than our other company product, so it was definitely not easy working with different teams to create wipes, pads, lip balm, etc.
Each group that manufactured the products are all different, so it was a lot of trial and error and MONEY!
7. A lot of girls, even grown women, don't know much about their body when it comes to menstruation. Is one of your hopes for My First Period Kit to empower young women through education?
Absolutely. I think my biggest goal as the founder is to change the stigma as it relates to periods. Why do the have to be ashamed to talk about it, why do we whisper and why do we get so embarrassed talking about it? It should be a natural thing to discuss and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. We all have our own story and preparing others is what it should be about. Last time I checked, they are an important part of reproduction, so we have to talk about it.
8. You have mentioned your interest in sustainability. How have you incorporated that into your businesses?
At Acrylic Sticks, that is a HUGE part of our mission. I am so over the use once and throw away concept as it relates to essentials like stir sticks. Our products are all washable and reusable and last forever, so we would love for them to replace one use straws and stirrers. Plus they are super chic and cute!
9. What is something that is bringing you joy during this time?
Creating brings me joy. Our customers bring us joy. Our products put smiles on peoples faces and to me, that is a joy that lasts a lifetime!!
