Annette, you are a true visionary!  From the moment we met you, we immediately were taken my your talent and your sweet demeanor.  We’d love to hear more about how you got into the floral and wedding industries!  How long have you been in business?

I started when my daughter was in kindergarten about 25 years ago.  It was a little shop in Cincinnati, Ohio called “Count Your Blessings”.  Sandy, the owner, gave me the opportunity to really fall in love with flowers and design.  I then moved to Indianapolis and started designing storefront windows.  That was a blast.  Flowers and decor!  That helps in personalization of the decor in the wedding.

It is no secret that we are obsessed with your floral designs!  You always design the most gorgeous arrangements and we are so in love!  Where do you find the inspiration for your creations?

I NEVER copy someone else’s work.  I try to follow a picture on Pinterest with a twist.  The idea is that I want to make every design match the client’s personality.

What would you say is your signature style in your designs?

Hmmm, that is really tough.  I think I really like the bohemian and garden feels.  It is so much fun to use nature and natural resources and textures.

The wedding industry can be a competitive one!  How do you stand out amongst the many vendors out there?

Just be me.  I am who I am.  I know what my strengths and weaknesses are and I do not pretend to be something I am not.  I always look at the fellow artists (not vendors) as gifted.  We all add to the industry.

What advice have you received along your journey that has inspired you and your business decisions?

Never have secrets.  Be open to sharing your gifts with others.  You never know how you could be making a difference in someone’s life.  I want everyone to succeed.

We know that the coronavirus pandemic has affected everyone in many ways, but the wedding industry especially.  How did you navigate these challenging times?

I am extremely fortunate to work from the home.  I did not have a rent payment to pay.  I know I am blessed.  I have really beautiful clients and we just lowered our head and rescheduled or went on with the wedding.

What is your advice for someone looking to embark on their own entrepreneurial journey?

Listen, learn, and never act like you know it all.  I always try to take at least one continuing education class per year, sometimes more.  When you stop learning, you stop living.

Okay, one last question just for fun!  If you had to pick, what would you say in your favorite flower?

For the Bohemian look, I’d say protea.  It just screams boho!  For garden, I love southern smilax.  What a great plant full of inspiration and gorgeous leaves.

It was such an honor to chat more with our favorite Flower Doll!  Her designs leave us full of joy and inspiration!  Be sure to check out her Instagram and website for more information on Annette.
