Alicia Marie is the definition of a Boss Doll®—she is the founder and CEO of Hunnideux, a makeup company that's all about bold colors, statement looks, and ethically produced, cruelty-free products. Which is exactly why we are so excited to feature her on our Boss Doll® Spotlight! We absolutely loved hearing all things Alicia Marie, from her journey to becoming a #fempreneur to her thoughts on the newest, hottest trends in makeup this summer—and we know you will too!

What were you doing before you started Hunnideux? And what drew you to makeup in the first place?

My background is in human resources, but I have loved all things beauty since I was a little girl. You can find me watching vintage beauty videos, makeup tutorials, and just playing with makeup at any time, for any reason!

What inspired you to create your own cosmetics line and become a #bossdoll? 

Makeup about enhancing your beauty. I've always been fascinated by all of the endless looks you can make using different colors, cosmetic products, brushes, and various techniques. For example, you can create a soft outer crease on the eye with a tapered eyeshadow brush, or you can use a piece of tape to get a sharp angle—two completely different final looks! I knew I wanted a colorful line that afforded anyone the ability to create to their heart's content.

What’s behind the name of your brand, “Hunnideux?” 

I love everything sweet! And I wanted to create a unique way of spelling it so that it would stand out. I'd say it worked!

We know you are all about bright colors that pop! What’s your best tip for those of us excited to experiment more with color in our makeup routines? 

Just go all in! I know a lot of people will tell you to start with just one color and gradually add others in. That's boring. Grab those brushes and start creating your own magic—you may surprise yourself!

Tell us a little more about why you took on the responsibility of creating ethically produced, cruelty-free cosmetics? 

It's important to me that my products are being manufactured by companies that embrace healthy and safe working environments and proper wages, and do not test on animals. It took several years to find the proper labs and manufacturers to work with that upheld those standards.

Can you tell us a little about the inspiration for the colors in your current collection? Any looks or trends from the past you drew from in specific? 

The 80s! I was born into the best decade ever. Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, the list goes on and on. They were two of several "Color Queens," often wearing crazy eyeshadow colors and blends with gaudy jewelry and fishnets! Talk about one of the most nostalgic decades.

What’s the makeup trend you are most excited about this summer? 

I'm all about lip gloss—that will always be a hot trend. Few things make me more excited than a slick, glossy lip in various colors and finishes. It literally changes your entire face.

You have an amazing collection of vivid eyeshadows and blushes. Any new products you are excited to expand into soon? 

Definitely lip gloss (the name is going to be amazing!) and our upcoming eyeshadow palettes are going to be crazy show-stoppers!
